Serve

We''ve pretty much learned that I stink at time management, and with that, getting this updated on a regular basis. But here goes:

Serve just ended today. For those of you who don''t know, Serve is a group of 9+ youth groups from the Converge NW (formerly the CBC) with a total of around 200 to 250 people. It was a blast. They rent out a campsite in one of the neighborhoods that we build in often, and pitch up quite a few tents, have an incredible worship team and an even more incredible kitchen staff (they were so awesome!) It was a little different from the rest of the summer in that it was a two day build as opposed to a one day, and that the grupos weren''t living in the dorms.

This summer has been great so far, I can''t believe it''s already halfway gone! If I was supposed to update you and haven''t, just email me and I will.

We have staff retreat this week, kicking off with church in San Diego at Claremont Emmanuel. Yay! Church in English! I get to understand the preaching! I DO love church in Tijuana though. It''s great and SO welcoming! A couple weekends ago, Mark and Carson played at a youth fundraiser event for the Deborah House. Being able to spend the day with the youth from a couple different churches at an event was a blast.

Aside from that, sorry that this is so short, and next time it WILL be sooner!
And for those of you who were wondering, I get back into Portland the evening of the 21st.

Oops

So. Sorry it's been so long. Those last few weeks before I left were super crazy. They included but were not limited to an impromptu trip to Seattle to get my passport, saying LOTS of see you laters, and meeting with the GMT from Hinson.

And then I got down here and our staff computer had a block that didn't allow blogger. Well, it still doesn't, but Josie (a staff member here, I'll get to that) figured out how to make it work. YAY! So... here goes. A month of filling in:

When I got down here there was one other intern and then the administrator (as far as staff go aside from Eddie and Maggi). Andrew Spoelstra (we call him Spo) and Elise. Eddie and Maggi met me at the airport and had waited to eat dinner so that they could take me out to eat so we didn't make it back to the dorms until around 9.
Super overwhelming.
The next day, Tuesday, Megan arrived around two with her friend and former intern Graig. Two people to kick it with while Andrew was working on stuff around the dorms. Tuesday was basically my settling in day, and my driving day, which was super nerve-racking at first. But now I'm more comfortable with driving down here.

From there to here wasn't very eventful. Well, it was, but it's hard to pinpoint it all and not take all day, especially since I've only got a tiny bit of time left until I've got to get to work.

We went to Rosarito our first day off. SUPER fun. I love the beach so much. I learned how to build a house AND went to a Mexican church the weekend before that. The following weekend we took a group camping trip to La Bufa Dora, which was just INCREDIBLE because there are only two blowholes in the entire world.

It was an incredible experience. We were camping just above the blowhole and scaling mountains like crazy (which is hard to believe if you know me...)

Since then we've just been working around the dorms a lot and then just got done having a 4 day weekend group straight into a week-long group. That was incredible. Such a blast. I can now officially build a house.

Staff orientation starts this afternoon, and I'll try to update more regularly. Promise. Oh right. Staff!

Well then

So I was going to post something the other day, but blogger was being REALLY ridiculous.

Let's see...

35 DAYS!!

Which is crazy. Really crazy.

I realized last Wednesday when talking to Andy, that I'm actually going to be gone for 8 months. Not 6.

As for my list...

I got my letters written, and then realized that I have to get my funds funneled through Hinson if I want them to be tax deductible. This is going to require RE-writing my letter, and jumping through quite a few hoops. Which will just have to be jumped through.

Other big news:

Mitchell's coming to Caravan too!!!

Which is such a relief and comfort that I won't be heading down there not knowing anyone. Except I leave before him because he still has to finish school... but yeah. It'll still be great.

Time Tends to Fly

Time tends to fly when you're trying to ignore it creeping by. Or so that's how it seems. I'll figure out how to get a countdown on here later, but I leave in 48 days.

48 DAYS!

So I guess that means I have a lot to do.

The main purpose of this blog is because I'm lazy. It makes it easier for me to update everyone all at once, as opposed to sending out mass emails and having to deal with all of that.
